Rapid Population Growth in Canada Driven by Immigration

population growth

The population growth that Canada experienced in the first quarter of the year marked the highest rate since 1990. This remarkable progress is because of the continued immigration into the country.

The 113,700 new immigrants welcomed in the first quarter of this year signified about 62% over the first quarter of 2021. The 2022 report also marks an increase of 64% over the same period in 2020.

Canada Immigration Express affirmed that the population growth would be beneficial for Canada’s labor market. Thus, the adverse effects of the country’s aging workforce and a high number of job vacancies will be reduced.

Canada’s Immigration Plan

Canada is putting measures in place based on its recognition of the need for a robust immigration strategy. The immigration strategy is hopeful to support the country’s labor market demands. The strategy outlines Canada’s immigration targets for permanent residents in future years.

The plan set under Justin Trudeau, the Canadian prime minister’s government, proposes the movement of over 1.3 million newcomers. These proposed immigrants are expected in the country over the next three years. Canada Immigration Express stated that the fulfillment of this plan would help support Canada’s post-pandemic growth.

Progress with the Immigration Target

In 2021, Canada surpassed its immigration target. It welcomed over 405,000 new residents in the year. Now, the country is on its way to achieving its target for the year. It welcomed over 431,645 new permanent residents. These records make it evident that Canada is making significant progress in achieving its immigration plan.
